Description
From the heart of Palestinian suffering, Garth based this song on words spoken by a group of Palestinian clergy and Christians who went to Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem where houses are being ethnically cleansed or are in danger of this happening – the clergy said these words, “We have come to stand with the people in Sheikh Jarrah. We are standing for justice and equal rights, standing against settler colonialism, standing against apartheid, standing against ethnic cleansing, standing for human dignity and equality.”
One of the houses was owned by the El Kurd family. The son, Mohammed El Kurd, had spoken at the United Nations in November 2021. He described the day that Israeli Jewish settlers took half of his home in Sheikh Jarrah, he was 11 years old at the time. He said, “The UN has called this a war crime – but I know this is theft.”
